About eSwatini

Some facts about eSwatini, from Global Road Warrior database:

  • Formerly known as "Swaziland", eSwatini is "a small, landlocked country located in southern Africa...It shares borders with Mozambique and South Africa, with the Lebombo Mountains running along its eastern border and between its two neighboring countries."
  • "Most of eSwatini's population are Swazi, a Bantu ethnic group predominant in southern Africa. There are small populations of Zulus along with whites who derive from the British and Afrikaners (Dutch)."
  • Noted characteristics of Swazi culture include a friendly nature and pride in its traditional way of life. This includes large ceremonies defines by music and dancing as well as many arts and handicrafts such as pottery, wood carvings, and beaded jewelry."
  • "Despite its small size, eSwatini has much biodiversity, including protected areas housing the Big Five animals: lion, leopard, rhinoceros, elephant, and Cape buffalo. There are also giraffes, zebras, monkeys, and about 500 bird species. In terms of plants, over 3,500 species have been recorded in eSwatini including many ferns, aloes, and flowering plants."
