Kirkwood Community College's TRIO Student Support Services-English as a Second Language program (TRIO SSS - ESL) is a federally funded program under the U.S. Department of Education. We provide opportunities for academic, social, and cultural development for multilingual students.
Be enrolled in credit classes at Kirkwood Community College on the Cedar Rapids campus or at the Kirkwood Regional Center at the University of Iowa in Coralville.
Be enrolled in English Language Acquisition classes (at least Level 5), a non-native English speaker, or speak, read, write in another language at home.
Be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
Meet at least ONE of these three criteria:
Be a First Generation student (Neither parent or guardian of a student has earned a four-year college degree)
Low Income (defined as household taxable income does not exceed 150% of the poverty level)
Have a documented physical or learning disability
Applicants must not have already earned a 2 year degree or higher

Participants in the TRIO SSS - ESL program have access to tutoring from faculty who specialize in Writing or Science subjects. You can schedule an appointment with a Specialist through the TRIO SSS - ESL Calendly link by selecting "Reading/Writing/ELA Tutoring" or "Science Academic Support".
