TRIO Student Support Services - Traditional

What is TRIO Student Support Services - Traditional?

Kirkwood Community College's TRIO Student Support Services-Traditional (TRIO Traditional) is a federally funded program under the U.S. Department of Education. We provide opportunities for academic, social, and cultural development for students from underrepresented backgrounds.

Who Qualifies?

Applicants must meet the following criteria in order to be eligible to receive support from the TRIO Traditional program:

Be enrolled in credit classes at Kirkwood Community College on the Cedar Rapids campus
Be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
Meet at least ONE of the following criteria:
- First Generation (defined as neither parent/guardian of the student has earned a four year bachelor's degree)
- Low Income (defined as a person's household taxable income not exceeding 150% of the poverty level)
- Have a documented physical or learning disability
Applicants must not have already earned a 2 year degree or higher

Program Benefits

TRIO Traditional participants are eligible for the following services:

Academic coaching
Career exploration
Financial aid guidance, including help with the FAFSA process, scholarship applications and financial literacy workshops
Highly-trained Academic Support Specialists, specialized in Writing and Math, who work one-on-one with students for optimal learning
Transfer planning, including assistance with the application process, and college and university visits to enable a smooth transition
Referrals to campus and community services
