BEFORE YOU ARRIVE

  • Bring your textbook, handouts from class, homework, tests, notes, etc.
  • Attend all classes, ask questions, and take notes.
  • Start your homework.
  • Write down specific questions.
  • Make note of difficult problems or concepts.

WHILE WORKING WITH A LEARNING ASSISTANT

  • Be patient. Walk-in learning assistants may be working with several students; you may have to wait for them to get to you. For this reason, we do offer one-on-one learning assistant requests.
  • Participate. A learning assistant will not do your homework for you and will not correct your completed homework. There is no other way for you to learn the material than for you to do the work yourself.
  • They don’t have all the answers. Learning assistants won’t replace your instructor. They may need to review your textbook or take time to work out an answer.
  • Review what you learn. Keep any notes from your session to review later. Practice hard problems and test yourself over challenging concepts more than once. This study habit will help you remember challenging topics.
