Midterm Marathon - Fall 2025 Edition!

Join the Sundberg Library and the Learning Commons for Midterm Marathon!

We have a week full of activities planned to help you be successful in your midterms, and throughout your college career. Come by each day to learn, have fun, and meet some of the many people working at Kirkwood to support you in your classes. We will have counselors, librarians, learning assistants, and, of course, therapy dogs!

Fall 2025 schedule (subject to change)

Each day at the Library we will have (while supplies last):

  • Coffee, tea, and hot cocoa 
  • Snacks to-go for quick fuel
  • Jigsaw puzzles to work on between study sessions

Each day at the Learning Commons we will have:

  • Coloring pages to help you relax
  • Games - come with a friend (or a few) for some quick, friendly competitions.
  • Academic support from around the college to help you with your studies.

Monday
  • Warm drinks and a variety of snacks
  • 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.: Join us in the Library for a Crafts at Kirkwood event, brought you by Student Services! Make your own fuzzy friend, bring it to life, and give it a personality all its own. It's the perfect way to relax, make new friends, and leave with a cuddy keepsake you'll treasure. Don't miss the fun!
  • The Learning Commons always has Learning Assistants available to help with your studies. Stop by to find out what they can help you with this week!
  • Button making activity: stop by to design and make your own button, or choose one of our preprinted designs!
Tuesday
  • Show your Library pride and make your own Banned Books Week themed button
  • Free popcorn!
  • Meet with learning assistants from the Learning Commons. See how they can help you succeed!
Wednesday
  • 9 to 10:15 a.m.: Stop by for this semester's "Do's, Don'ts and Donuts" of Test Prep, with a donut from Donutland. Talk with Kirkwood's academic coach while you're at it!

Thursday
  • Free chair massages: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

  • Grab a coffee or a hot cocoa and a snack and find a spot to study. We're here to help!

Introducing the zSpace Inspire - at the Learning Commons

Come try out our 3D VR computer, debuting at the Learning Commons, 2071 Cedar Hall - Wednesday, April 30th. This instrument uses eye tracking and a pen-style stylus to manipulate images that seem to pop out of the screen. Come see how this powerful tool can help you studying subjects such as Anatomy, Biology, Chemistry, and more!

Things a student can do for a brain break at the Learning Commons

Come in to use our individual study rooms for your finals push, but don't forget to give your brain a "reset." Be sure to break up your study time with something fun and interactive to move your body. We have many options this week, so be sure to stop by for some fun!

Visit us in person on either the Main Campus (Cedar Rapids, IA) or the Kirkwood Regional Center at University of Iowa (in Coralville, IA)

Announcing the Learning Commons!

We are thrilled to announce significant change to academic supports on campus. We have transformed tutoring services department into the Learning Commons. The changes that accompany this re-naming will enhance the learning experience for all members of our academic community. The Learning Commons takes a holistic approach to fostering academic success and collaboration at Kirkwood.

The Learning Commons fosters an inclusive learning community by offering personalized study support and resources for all students.

    • Study Support: Learning Assistants help with subjects, skills, assignments, and projects.

Faculty and Staff Office hours:

    • You're invited to hold office hours in the Learning Commons, a comfortable, communal space with a collaborative atmosphere.

When and Where:

  • 2071 Cedar Hall: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
  • 052 Kirkwood Regional Center at the University of Iowa: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM
  • Learning Assistants are available for walk-in hours and individually

In the Future:

  • We will move into the Sundberg Library and Learning Commons, a move that will bring important academic support together in a single, vibrant location.
