  • Academic Search Elite
    This database offers information in nearly every area of academic study including: computer sciences, engineering, physics, chemistry, language and linguistics, arts & literature, medical sciences, ethnic studies and more.
  • ACM Digital Library
    Published by the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM), this database contains "full text of every article ever published by ACM and bibliographic citations from major publishers in computing." ACM is one of the main professional societies dedicated to computing as a profession and a science.
  • Agricultural Newspaper Collection from the University of Illinois
    The Farm, Field and Fireside Collection is a project of the History, Philosophy and Newspaper Library at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. This collection is a repository of digital facsimiles of historic agricultural newspapers published in the United States. Users can print, download, or e-mail individual articles free of charge.
  • Ancestry and Ethnicity in America
    Ancestry & Ethnicity in America provides a wealth of comprehensive, up-to-date demographic, population, relocation information and more.
  • ArchiveGrid
    ArchiveGrid provides access to detailed descriptions of historical documents, personal papers and family histories held in archives throughout the world. Users can learn about the contents of these collections, contact archives to arrange a visit to examine materials or order copies.
  • ArticleFirst
    The ArticleFirst database describes items listed on the table of contents pages of individual issues of nearly 13,000 journals in the areas of business, the humanities, medicine, popular culture, science, social sciences and technology.
  • Business Source Elite
    This database offers information on business, economics, management, and marketing. More than 10,100 substantial company profiles from Datamonitor are also included.
  • CAMIO
    CAMIO contains fine art and decorative art from pre-history through contemporary works. All content is rights-cleared for educational use in the classroom or to illustrate papers, Web projects and other assignments.
  • CINAHL with Full Text
    Comprehensive nursing and allied health database containing full-text coverage of many of the more than 610 journals within the CINAHL database. Our License agreement allows 8 users at a time to access the database. If you cannot access the database, try searching again later. If the problem persists, please contact a reference librarian at 319-398-5697.
  • CQ Researcher
    CQ Researcher examines current events and issues. It offers overviews, future outlooks, opposing viewpoints and bibliographies on many topics, such as global warming, teenage suicide, etc.
  • Current Biography Illustrated
    This database reflects the entire contents of the printed monthly Current Biography. It provides profiles and images of the people making tomorrow’s headlines plus historical figures back to World War II.
  • DSM Library
    The DSM Library contains access to both DSM-IV-TR and the latest edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, DSM-5. Full text access is provided for both editions: note, these online versions do not contain page numbers. Access to the supplemental texts, DSM-IV-TR Handbook of Differential Diagnosis, and DSM-IV-TR Casebook and its Treatment Companion, is also provided.

    EBSCOhost's extensive collection of books available electronically from any electronic device with an internet connection.

  • ERIC
    ERIC, the Education Resource Information Center, provides access to education literature and resources.
  • European Views of the Americas: 1493 to 1750
    This is not a full-text database. It indexes European works that relate to the Americas. It covers the history of European exploration, portrayals of Native American peoples, natural disaster, disease outbreaks and slavery.
  • FirstSearch Home
    Use this link to access the following FirstSearch databases: ArticleFirst, ClasePeriodica, Ebooks, ECO, GPO, OAIster, PapersFirst, Proceedings, WorldAlmanac, and WorldCatDissertations.
  • Funk & Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia
    This database indexes over 25,000 records, covering an array of topics.
  • Google Books
    The "advanced book search" option lets you search only those books whose full contents can be viewed online. *Note: There is not a print option for Google Books.*
  • Google News Archive
    Google news archive search provides an easy way to search and explore historical archives. In addition to helping you search, News archive search can automatically create timelines which show selected results from relevant time periods.
  • Google Scholar
    Google Scholar searches specifically for scholarly materials such as journal articles, research reports, dissertations, and theses. You'll be linked to the full text if the library subscribes to the journal or if it's from an open access journal.
  • GreenFILE
    This database offers information on all aspects of human impact to the environment. It includes content on global warming, green building, pollution, sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, recycling, and more.
  • Health Source: Consumer Edition
    This database provides consumer health information, i.e. information written for the patient and consumer.
  • Health Source: Nursing/Academic Edition
    This database provides scholarly information on many medical disciplines with a strong emphasis on nursing and allied health.
  • Learning Express Library
    The Learning Express Library is a resource offering several practice tests, exercises, skill building courses, eBooks and other info for helping you succeed in school and your career.
  • Library Literature & Information Science Full Text
    This database provides access to information on library and information science with indexing coverage beginning in 1984, abstracting in 1984, and “select” full in 1994.
  • Literary Index by Gale
    This Literary Index is a master index to the major literature products published by Gale. It allows you to search Gale literature database by author or by title. You can also Look for authors by name, birth date, death date, or nationality. Full text is not online, but the Cedar Rapids Campus Library owns many of the titles in print.
  • Literature Resource Center
    This database provides information on literary topics, authors, and their works. Its covers all genres and disciplines, all time periods, and all regions of the world. Full text.
  • MasterFILE Premier
    This database is designed specifically for public libraries, covering general reference, business, health, education, general science, multicultural issues and much more. Many articles are full text.
  • MedlinePlus
    Consumer health information from the National Library of Medicine. Easy access to Medline and Health topics, medical dictionaries, directories and publications.
  • New York Times (1851-2007)
    ProQuest Historical Newspapers The New York Times (1851-2007) offers full page and article images with searchable full text back to the first issue. The collection includes digital reproductions providing access to every page from every available issue.
  • New York Times (June 1, 1980-present)
    Use this link to browse and search current issues of New York Times.
  • Newspaper Archives of Cedar Rapids Public Library
    This online database contains more than 665,000 historical newspaper pages from Cedar Rapids. The full-page newspapers, dating back to 1857, are searchable by keyword and date, making it easy for you to quickly explore historical content.
  • Newspaper Source Plus
    Includes more than 860 full-text newspapers, including the Cedar Rapids Gazette. Also features many television and radio news transcripts.
  • Newsstand
    This is your one-stop database for full-text news articles from national, regional and local newspapers. Includes: New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Iowa City Press-Citizen, Des Moines Register and hundreds of other titles.
  • Opposing Viewpoints in Context
    This resource from Gale covers today’s hottest social issues. It helps students research, analyze and organize a broad variety of data for conducting research, completing writing assignments, preparing for debates, creating presentations and more.
  • Ovid Nursing Journal Collection
    This small database contains the following nursing journals: Home Healthcare Nurse: The Journal of the Home Care and Hospice Professional, Nursing Critical Care, Nursing, Nursing Made Incredibly Easy!, and AJN: American Journal of Nursing.
  • Oxford Art Online
    Covering a wide range of reference sources, the Oxford Art Online gateway provides images, bibliographies, and subject entries on all aspects of the visual arts.
  • Oxford Music Online
    Featuring Grove Music Online, the Oxford Companion to Music, the Oxford Dictionary of Music, and more, the Oxford Music Online gateway is a comprehensive reference source for information regarding music and musicians.
  • Primary Search
    This database provides information for elementary school research. All full text articles included in the database are assigned a reading level indicator (Lexiles).
  • Project Gutenberg
    Database containing nearly 40,000 electronic books that can be downloaded to an e-reader or mobile device or read online.
  • PsycArticles
    This database contains scholarly articles from journals published by the American Psychological Association (APA). All articles are full text.
  • PsychiatryOnline
    Psychiatry Online is an online portal to the full text of the DSM-IV-TR and its associated Handbook, Casebook and Treatment Companions. This database also includes a variety of supplemental resources for students and practitioners, such as journal articles and online books. Please note that materials older than 1997 are not available full-text.
  • PubMed
    PubMed comprises more than 20 million citations for biomedical literature from MEDLINE, life science journals, and online books. Citations may include links to full text content from PubMed Central.You'll also be linked to the full text if the library subscribes to the journal or if it's from an open access journal.
  • Regional Business News
    This database provides comprehensive full text coverage for regional business publications. Regional Business News incorporates coverage of more than 80 regional business publications covering all metropolitan and rural areas within the United States.
  • Salem Health (Magill's Medical Guide)
    This database includes the complete content of the print reference source, Magill's Medical Guide, found in Iowa City Campus Library.
  • Salem History (Milestone documents in American History)
    This database includes the complete content of printed reference sets from Salem Press: Milestone Documents in American History, Fifties in America, and Sixties in America.
  • Science Full Text Select
    This database provides journal articles on a variety of science subjects such as Automotive Engineering, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Biology, Soil Science, etc. The coverage begins in 1994.
  • Teacher Reference Center
    This database provides professional educators with indexing and abstracts for teacher and administrator journals and magazines.
  • TOPICsearch
    This is a current events database allowing students to explore social, political and economic issues, scientific discoveries and other popular topics discussed in today’s classrooms.
  • Virtual Reference Library
    This is a database of encyclopedias, almanacs, and specialized reference sources.
  • Vocational and Career Collection
    The database provides full text coverage for a number of trade and industry related periodicals.
